UPDATE: Murder investigation in Erith - Appeal Can you help?

Detectives investigating a murder in Erith have identified the victim as 24-year-old Kai McGingley, a resident of Southwark. The incident occurred on Thursday, 9th February at approximately 20:50hrs, when police received reports of shots fired on Pembroke Road in Erith. Upon arrival, officers and the London Ambulance Service found Kai with a gunshot injury, but despite their efforts, he tragically passed away at the scene.

A murder investigation has been launched, led by Detective Chief Inspector Chris Wood, who is seeking information from anyone with knowledge of the events that took place on Pembroke Road. DCI Wood is particularly interested in any information regarding a silver Land Rover Freelander GL52 HDO that was abandoned by the suspects after the murder. It is believed that another vehicle, or vehicles, were used to drive the suspects away from the scene, and one of them is likely to show signs of front-end collision damage. If you have noticed a damaged vehicle or have been asked to repair one, please contact the police.

DCI Wood and his team are working hard to determine what happened to Kai and why, and they urge anyone with information to come forward. Kai's next of kin have been notified and are being supported by specialist officers. A post-mortem examination will be conducted in due time. At this time, there have been no arrests.

The police extend their thoughts to Kai's family as they struggle to come to terms with their sudden loss. Anyone with information that can assist the investigation is encouraged to call 101 or tweet @MetCC, quoting reference 7135/09Feb. If you prefer to remain anonymous, you can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
