On Sunday 31st May at approximately 22:50hrs a silver Volvo XC90 was stolen on Martens Avenue. 

As you live within the location of this theft, I am reaching out to see if anyone had seen or heard anything at this time. If you have any CCTV, it would be greatly appreciated if you could review at the time stated above to see if anything has been captured. Please reply to this message if you have any information.

Community Safety in Focus: Met Engage and Bexley Watch at Bexleyheath Library

On Thursday, 16th April 2026, the local community gathered at Bexleyheath Library for a productive day of engagement focused on resident safety and crime prevention. The event brought together representatives from Met Engage and Bexley Watch Coordinators, providing a vital opportunity for members of the public to speak directly with those working to keep the borough safe.

Expert Advice on Hand

The library’s heritage area was transformed into an information hub, with a dedicated stand featuring a wide array of resources. Officers and coordinators were available throughout the day to discuss local concerns and provide practical, actionable advice.

The primary focus of the session was empowering residents with the tools and knowledge to protect themselves and their property. From home security to staying safe in the digital world, the team covered a broad spectrum of safety topics.

Practical Tips for Resident Safety

The event highlighted several key areas of crime prevention, many of which are detailed in the new "Bexley Resident Safety & Crime Prevention" guide. Key takeaways from the day included:

• Protect Your Home: Simple steps can make a significant difference. Installing quality, certified locks and securing all entry points—including back gates and windows—are essential first steps. Many residents also discussed the benefits of smart doorbells and security cameras as effective deterrents.

• Stay Secure Online: With the rise of sophisticated phishing attempts, the team emphasized the importance of using unique, strong passwords and a password manager. Enabling two-factor authentication (2FA) on all critical accounts remains one of the best ways to protect personal data.

• Vehicle Security: Simple habits, such as ensuring valuables are removed from cars and keeping keys out of sight and away from doors and windows, were highlighted as crucial measures to prevent opportunistic theft.

Getting Involved with Bexley Watch

One of the highlights of the day was the promotion of the Bexley Neighbourhood Watch. Community safety is a collective effort, and the event encouraged residents to join local schemes, sign up for safety newsletters, and attend community meetings with their Safer Neighbourhood Teams.

By staying informed and looking out for one another, residents play a vital role in creating a more secure environment for everyone.

Recent engagement at Bexleyheath Library - MetEngage Bexleyheath

Hi Resident

Yesterday, I held our weekly drop-in surgery at Bexleyheath Library where I had the opportunity to speak with residents about one of our local issues, pickpocketing/personal theft. I was also able to provide crime prevention advice and handed out purse bells, leaflets, RFID card sleeves and personal attack alarms to those who needed them. 

Our next drop-in surgery will be on Thursday, 16th April 2026 between 5-6pm at Bexleyheath Library. Please do pop along and say hello. I still have a limited amount of bells, card sleeves and alarms to hand out on a first come, first served basis.

Pickpocketing in Broadway Shopping Centre - MetEngage Bexleyheath

Good afternoon Resident, 

 

Over the last week we have seen an increase in pickpocketing offences being reported to us whilst people have been out shopping in Bexleyheath Broadway. 

 

Please remain vigilant when out and about in public and ensure that all bags and purses are zipped up and secure at all times. Please be assured that your local Neighbourhood Policing Team are taking this matter very seriously and will be out and about in the Broadway to detect and deter crime. If you see anything suspicious, please approach a Police Officer, a member of centre security or as always, call 101 for non-emergencies or 999 in an emergency.

Also consider purchasing purse bells (see photo of example) which can be clipped to the zip of purses and wallets and can be a great tool to prevent you from being a victim of pickpocketing.

Attempted Burglary - MetEngage Bexleyheath

We are making you aware of a burglary and two attempted burglaries which took place on Sunday 28th February.

 

While we will continue to pursue burglars in the area, there are steps you can do to help keep your property safe. Make sure that you:  

 

Double lock your door every time you leave the house  

If you can, move garden furniture or bins away from windows so that thieves cannot use them to gain access.  

Use laminated glass or security film on ground floor and accessible windows.  

Use a sash stop if you have sash windows to prevent people opening them enough to climb through.  

If your windows open outwards, use a key operated lock – check these are locked before leaving the house.  

Make sure all valuables are out of sight. 

Keep handbags and keys away from letterboxes or cat flaps.  

In the evening shut the curtains and leave lights on.  

Set your burglar alarm 

Lock your  shed or garage 

Mark, register or record your valuables.

We're putting out an urgent call for information regarding a stolen white Kia EV6 taken from the Izane Road area of Bexleyheath (DA6).

This electric vehicle was stolen on Monday, September 22nd, around 11:30 pm.

• Colour: White

• Year: 2023

• Original Registration: LV73 VLS

• Key Identifying Feature: This vehicle has a highly distinctive black roof which is not factory standard. Please look out for this unusual feature!

The owners are understandably devastated and are offering a CASH REWARD for information that leads to the return of the vehicle.

Urgent: Burglary in Upton Road, DA6 8LX

On Saturday 18th January 2025 evening between 3-6pm, our home in Upton Road, DA6 8LX, was burgled. The thieves stole a significant number of valuable items, including my safe.

The owner is desperately seeking your help in recovering their beloved car. We urge all residents in the Bexleyheath area, especially those living near Martin Rise, to:

• Check your CCTV footage or any other surveillance devices you have installed. Even a brief glimpse of the car or suspicious activity could be crucial.

Crime alert: Suspects caught on camera stealing lead from building site

Does anyone recognise these guys?

They were caught on a Ring doorbell allegedly stealing lead from a building site on May 18, 2023 at 6:30 AM on Broom Mead DA6 7NY.

If you recognise these men, please contact the police immediately. Their actions appear to be a crime and they need to be brought to justice.

We kindly request all residents in the area to check their CCTV footage or any other surveillance devices that they may have installed, especially if you live in the vicinity of Broom Mead DA6 7NY. If you have seen them or have any information about this crime, we urge you to come forward and report it to either Bexleyheath Police on 101, or 020 8721 2021. WARNING PICKPOCKETS ARE AFTER YOUR MONEY, CARDS, WALLETS AND PHONES

If you have to or are going to shop, as Christmas gets closer the usual suspects are out on the lookout for anything of value they can take from shoppers.

Last week we had 11 of these types of theft reported with the bulk of them (9) in Bexleyheath Broadway, while in Bexley Village and Sidcup High Street shoppers also had items stolen.

 

This can ruin peoples Christmas so be careful and if you see this happening call 999 and report it. Don't put yourself at risk.
