A bizarre case of 'number spoofing'

We heard from someone left very confused because they received a text from what appeared to be their own number. Although the message seemed innocuous enough, one thing seems likely: it's a case of number spoofing, where scammers are able to display a false caller ID to prevent any comeback for their crimes.
