Fake email phishing scam warning

Screenshot of scam email

A local borough resident received this convincing fake email scam. Click on the screenshot to view enlarged.

It states the resident (real name used to appear convincing) made a complaint a year ago, and due to a system error, they would be happy to compensate her quite a high amount for the error. All she had to do was to just reply to the email, so they could validate her email address. The names and its company appear fictitious and she never did make a complaint at any service desk as claimed.

Despite the temptation of a high compensation, since this was a phishing email scam and too good to be true, she did fall for it and instead reported it*.

Needless to say do no click on links that turn out of the blue. Take time to research and check this blog for advice and further information on similar scams.

If you receive a call you believe to be fraudulent, hang up. If you are suspicious about an email you have received, forward it to report@phishing.gov.uk.*

Suspicious text messages should be forwarded to the number 7726 which is free of charge.

If you believe you are the victim of a fraud, please report this to Action
